Welcome the spring sunshine with this colorful light catcher. This craft is so versatile and easy, it’s perfect for a family fun day indoors. It’s simple enough to capture the short attention span of the young, but pretty enough to be something an adult wouldn’t mind hanging in the kitchen window.
Grandparent Alert: This is a great project to do with your grandkids!
Gather
- Either a favorite coloring page print out or blank paper
- Markers, Crayons, Colored Pencils
- Mason jar rings
- Twine or Ribbon
- Glue
- Olive Oil
- Cotton Balls or Q-Tips
- Scissors
- Newspaper or Paper Towels to catch the mess
Go
- Start with a patterned coloring page and trace the outside of the mason jar ring on your favorite spot. The more artistically inclined may want to start with a blank piece of paper and draw their own pattern inside the ring.
- Color the pattern in. The more color the better.
- Coat the freshly colored print with olive oil and set aside to dry.
- Once the olive oil has dried, Cut the circle out. Drizzle glue on the inside lip of the mason jar ring with glue and press paper into the ring. You might want to measure the paper before putting down the glue in case the paper needs an extra trim.
- Tie ribbon or string around the outer edge of the mason jar. If it’s super slippery, an extra dab of glue will hold it in place. Make sure you leave enough ribbon for hanging.
- Hang your colorful light catcher up and enjoy.
